Exceptional barbecue operation La Barbecue will open a restaurant at 1722 S Congress Ave. in the Wahoo’s Fish Taco space later this year. A representative for La Barbecue says the hope to open the restaurant by November. When the restaurant opens, the trailer near I-35 will close.

La Barbecue on South Congress will be open Tuesday-Sunday serving the same lunch menu as the current trailer, with a limited evening bar food menu, along with liquor and beer, though reps said there are still many details to be determined.

Celebrated pit master John Lewis will shuttle from Lewis BBQ in Charleston, South Carolina and Austin to manage quality control at LeAnn Mueller’s La Barbecue.

La Barbecue earned the number one spot on my Top 10 barbecue list last summer. Read that story at austin360.com/barbecue.

Correction: A previous version of this post stated LeAnn Mueller was a co-owner of La Barbecue.
