The Lockhart barbecue scions behind Schmidt Family Barbecue in Bee Caves will open a location in Lakeway later this year, according to co-owner Chad Franks.

Franks says he hopes the restaurant at 2125 Lohmans Crossing Rd. (in the old Buster’s BBQ location) will be open within the next 60-120 days.

The restaurant will offer a menu with a few changes from the current Bee Caves location. The Lakeway restaurant will feature a new smokehouse turkey salad and will not include prime rib, pork chops, and the weekend ham special. Schmidt Family Barbecue in Lakeway will serve beef ribs Friday-Sunday, along with regular weekly deals on food and alcohol. The restaurant will also sell family packs and feature a deck and playscape, and are working out the logistics for curbside service.

In a note to diners, Franks reiterated that the restaurant, which serves certified Angus beef brisket, raised prices last year in reaction to escalated beef wholesale prices.
