Update: Kocurek’s chef de cuisine Damien Brockway has been promoted to executive chef. Brockway previously worked at Qui and Uchiko.

Just months after helping to open the innovating Counter 357, executive chef Lawrence Kocurek announced today via email that he is leaving the Congress Avenue restaurant. The chef, whose previous stops included Trace and the Hyatt Lost Pines, says he is leaving the restaurant to spend more time with his family.

“I’ve accomplished a lot in Austin over the years and it’s time to start a new chapter, which will allow me to have more time with my family,” Kocurek wrote. “My wife and I are still working out the final details, but our plans include a move to North East Texas and starting a pig farm.”

I reviewed Counter 357 for the Statesman just two weeks ago, giving it a glowing review (8.5/10). Read that review here.
