Chinese bao and Southern comfort restaurants planned for Mueller development

The Alamo Drafthouse will have some restaurant neighbors when it opens at the Mueller development next year. The Southern-inspired Colleen’s Kitchen will serve comfort dishes like fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs and mac & cheese, and offer a full bar and a take-out to grab picnic box lunches. The restaurant is owned by Ashley and Sean Fric, an owner of J. Black’s Feel Good Kitchen & Lounge and the Golden Goose bar in South Austin. The couple, who have a child named Elizabeth Colleen, are Mueller residents who have been there since it opened in 2009. Colleen’s Kitchen will be joined by Bao’d Up, a Chinese restaurant focused on homemade bao (steamed buns filled with meats and vegetables). The restaurant is the creation of the owners of Xian Sushi and Noodle in the Mueller Market District.

The new restaurants slated to open in 2017 will be located at the entertainment district at Mueller known as Aldrich Street. They will be joined next year by other new restaurants and bars like B.D. Riley’s Irish Pub, Lick Honest Ice Creams, Halcyon Coffee + Bar + Lounge, Stella Public House and J.T. Youngblood’s. Once open, Mueller will be home to about 40 dining and drinking establishments.
