Say this for the owner of the new food truck coming to 5020 Burnet Road, he knows how to get your attention. Now, will the food be any good? Owner Mo Pittle plans to open JewBoy Burgers on October 21 at 5020 Burnet Road (next to Mattress Firm). The truck is billed as a Jewish and Latin-inspired food truck.

So, what does that mean? The food, according to a release, “combines the eccentricities of American Jewish heritage (although not kosher) with the rich and flavorful personality of the Latino perspective. Existing between comfort and craft, the fare includes Mexican diner-style burgers and sides complimented by Jewish deli-style flavors.”

The truck’s name comes from a well-intentioned moniker Pittle, who was raised in a traditional Jewish home in El Paso, earned as a kid. It is a spin on the “homeboy” many of his Latino friends used for one another.

“I grew up in seemingly disparate cultures but soon realized the Jewish and Latino cultures are actually very similar, if not complementary, in a lot of ways, especially when it comes to cuisine,” Pittle said. “This food truck is a genuine reflection of myself and the communities I was raised in and I look forward to bringing a bit of both the cultures into the Austin food scene.”

JewBoy Burgers will serve five variations of burgers on potato-rolls, as well as a few sandwiches and a kosher hot dog sandwich, with other dishes like deli-inspired potato latkes. The burgers include the The Oy Vey Guey Burger, with Jack cheese, green chilies and jalapenos, and the Goyim, a bacon and grilled pastrami burger with Swiss cheese on Texas Toast. The truck will be open for lunch and dinner Tuesday-Saturday. (jewboyburgers.com)
