Weekend events: Austin Girls’ Choir benefit and Sustainable Food Center Chef Series

sss-2nd-street-42The Austin Girls’ Choir holds their annual benefit, Women Who Cook, Sunday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Strange Land Brewery (5904 Bee Cave Road).  The evening will feature local brews and dishes from chef Jennifer Costello of the Bonneville and chef Jessica Forkner of Crema Bakery and Cafe, who will prepare jalapeno corn cakes topped with housemade carnitas, roasted butternut squash and porter chocolate cake. There will be a silent auction at the event, a raffle, holiday-themed songs from the Girls’ Choir. Ticket information at girlschoir.com.

La Condesa (400 W. Second St.) hosts a slew of talented chefs Sunday night for the Sustainable Food Center’s Chef Series benefit dinner. Chefs Rick Lopez of La Condesa (Austin), Diego Galicia and Rico Torres of Mixtli (San Antonio), Jason Stude of Boiler Nine, Michael Paley of South Congress Hotel, Thomas Calhoun of Lenoir, and Yoshi Okai of Otoko will prepare a multi-course meal highlighting the seasonal bounty of Central Texas.
