The recent surge of Italian restaurants in Austin will continue this summer when the New Waterloo hospitality group opens Il Brutto at 1617 E. Sixth St.
The latest spot from the owners of Sway, La Condesa, Hotel Ella and the South Congress Hotel will feature separate bar and lounge and shaded patio. The menu will include housemade pasta, and pizza baked in the restaurant’s two Neapolitan wood-burning ovens. The restaurant was initially conceived as the two-headed Gatto Nero and Enoteca Gattino
“Forgoing a narrowed regional focus, Il Brutto will deliver expertly prepared Italian fare that offers guests familiar flavors served in an unpretentious manner,” New Waterloo partner Delfo Trombetta said in a release.
The restaurant, its name meaning “the ugly one” in Italian, will be located in the new mixed-use building that will include 350 apartments and serve as the Austin headquarters for C3 Presents, Conde Nast and Front Gate Tickets.
Il Brutto will be joined in the mixed-use development at some point by its sister operation, a yet-to-be-named Italian sandwich shop. You can follow Il Brutto’s progress on its Facebook page and Instagram feed.
