One of Austin’s best bars — and one of the best in America, according to the recent issue of Esquire — is broadening its offerings. In a move that is meant to showcase rising talent in Austin’s culinary scene, Half Step on Rainey Street begins its guest sous chef series on June 5. First up, James Durham of Salt & Time Butcher Shop and Salumeria. Durham will prepare a beet-centric meal of three or four dishes that also highlight Gulf seafood. Dishes can be purchased a la carte, and there are not advanced sales. The outdoor dinner begins at 8 p.m. and Half Step will also serve drink specials to complement the meal.
