J. Black’s on West Sixth Street closes

One of the staples of booze West Sixth Street for the past decades is shuttering. J. Black’s Feel Good Lounge sent out an email newsletter Friday announcing that it would close after service on Saturday. The bar, lounge and eatery opened at 710 W. Sixth St. The Manera Restaurant Group which operated J. Black’s opened casual seafood spot TLC late last year catty-corner from the Alamo South Lamar in the Lamar Union development. They closed the Houston location of J. Black’s in 2017.

The bar landed in the news in 2014 when one of its former board members was arrested in a sweep aimed at sex trafficking. There is no word on what will happen with the former J Black’s space.
